Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Breast Cancer Surgery with Simple Pathology Facilities-An Iranian Experience

چکیده
Status of axillary lymph node is an important factor in staging, prognosis and guiding treatment selection in early breast cancer. Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB) is a revolutionary concept in solid tumor surgery which has been introduced since 1993 in breast cancer (Krag et al., 1993). SLN is the first lymph node (LN) which drains the lymph flow from the primary tumor site. Its careful examination could accurately detect the spread of tumor cell with less aggressive surgical procedures and less morbidity (including Lymphedema, paresthesis, pain and restriction of arm motion) than axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) as the standard surgical approach to lymphatic staging (Fleissig et al., 2006; Del et al., 2008; Ashikaga et al., 2010). On the other hand, about 30% of axillary LNs are positive in early breast cancer and as a consequence, two-third of patients receive no benefit of

Sentinel lymph node biopsy in melanoma patients: An experience with Tc-99m antimony sulfide colloid
Introduction: Sentinel lymph node biopsy is the standard procedure for lymph node staging in intermediate thickness melanoma. In Iran, this procedure has not been addressed sufficiently. In this study, we report our experience in this area. Methods: Ten consecutive patients with intermediate thickness melanoma where included in our study. 1.5 mCi of Tc-99m antimony...
متن کاملThe need for skin pen marking for sentinel lymph node biopsy: A comparative study
Introduction: There is a consensus in the literature that sentinel lymph node biopsy is the standard procedure for axillary staging in early stage (I and II) breast cancer patients. Usually during lymphoscintigraphy, the location of the sentinel lymph node is marked on the skin by an indelible ink. In this study we evaluated this issue in our patients. Methods: 40 ...
متن کاملRelationship between Non-Technical Factors and Diagnostic Accuracy of Frozen Section in Axillary Lymph Nodes in Patients with Breast Cancer
Background and purpose: Regional lymph node involvement is one of the main prognostic factors for breast cancer. Intraoperative assessment of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) by frozen section (FS) allows necessary axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) at the same time. But, false negative results are the main problems of the FS. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship betwee...
متن کاملSentinel node mapping for early breast cancer patients using 99mTc-phytate: Single center experience on 165 patients
Introduction: Several radiotracers are being used for sentinel node mapping in patients with breast cancer. In the current study, we reported our experience with 99m-Tc Phytate for sentinel node mapping in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Methods: All breast cancer patients who underwent sentinel node mapping using 99m-Tc Phytate were included. All patients received intradermal peri-are...
متن کاملSentinel Node Mapping in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Using an Intraoperative Radiotracer Technique
Objective(s): Lymph node metastases are the most significant prognostic factor in localized non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Identification of the first nodal drainage site (sentinel node) may improve detection of metastatic nodes. Extended surgeries, such as lobectomy or pneumonectomy with lymph node dissection, are among the therapeutic options of higher acceptab...
